Most Popular Posts Widget Update

. Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Seems that the code for the Spotplex widget is no longer going to be supported/maintained by Spotplex. As of May 9th 2008.

So, those using this code may have noticed their widget seems to no longer be adding new counts/visitors. With that said, there is still the widget from Affiliate which I am now currently going to be using and this widget can be found at the bottom of my blog in the middle column of the Footer section.

As well, one can also use the Popular Posts widget from Feedjit. (Same company making the visitor widget that I use in the right hand side, sidebar section)

But unfortunatelly the Spotplex widget will no longer be supported. :(

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've decided to update this post after only a day :)
I've found that this Affiliate Brand widget is either installed wrong on my end (Which I dont think is the case) or this is yet another non working widget :( It has been well over a day and still no posts showing up.

The Feedjit widget will only show the last 24 hours for popularity and base it as a percentage.

There is also a widget over at Blogger Buster That Amanda has built that will give you the most popular posts based on the comments received by them. It is easy to install, just fill out the information and you can get the widget to almost self install :)

If anyone knows of a widget comparable to the Spotplex one, I would be greatly appreciated.

Having recently browsed about for popular posts widget for blogger, I came across many posts and blogs mentioning outdated hacks and codes and services from websites that have long folded or moved. Then I came across a service from Spotplex. A simple generator that takes care of all the analyzing on their website and a javascript snippet you can add right on your layout page. How simple is that!

How to install the tracking code?

  1. Head on over to the website Spotplex
  2. In the top right hand corner is a light blue box that says “Get your Spotplex code”. Click on it
  3. Register your blog
  4. Fill all the information out, title, summary, category type, language, email and the various " I agree" terms. (Assuming you do indeed agree)
  5. Get Your Code! Remember to Choose Blogger as your blog type. Then hit that "Install Spotplex widget" button once you finish your selections.
You have now just finished installing the code that will track all your page views. The workhorse part of the widget. Now that you have this installed all you need to do is generate that nifty little snippet of code I mentioned at the very beginning.

So back on the main Spotplex page, you will see a green get widget button at the top of the page. Near that big light blue box you clicked on before. Click it.

How to install the Popular Posts Widget?

  1. Click the get widget below the header (Mentioned it a couple lines up)
  2. Scope: Chose "Specific Blog"
  3. Type: Your URL then select "Popular Articles"
  4. Options Section: Pick the time frame you wish to have results shown from. 24h will only show the popular posts over the last 24 hours. All time will show the most popular posts from the onset of this installation to the current date.
  5. Choose the size and then how many posts you wish to show
  6. Click Get This Widget
  7. Now copy the code shown in the box on the right hand side
  8. Login to your Blogger Account
  9. On the Dashboard section click "Layout" Tab
  10. on the element tab, pick "Add a page element"
  11. Under the page element “HTML/Javascript”, click "Add to Blog"
  12. Paste the code from Spotplex and save the page element
Thats it, you have installed everything and after waiting for a few minutes or 10, you should be able to start clicking on your posts to test out the widget. You should see the articles with the amount of times it has been seen.

Please subscribe to my Feed if you liked this post.

How often have you come across a blog that is written in a language you do not comprehend?
I am sure you have come across many websites and found yourself stumped once you get to the site after searching on google etc Only to find its in a language you can not understand. Well it happens way too often and it does not need too.

I recently was given a link to a blog that explains how easy it is for a person to translate their website and or blog into various other languages. So there really is no excuse for a one language website anymore.

This article does not only explain how to translate your site free of charge, this article also explained how important it can be for a person to translate their articles and make their site all that more accessible. So, using this article I made sure that Blog Me The Money was accessible as well. Again I give my thanks for this useful information. If anyone else has useful tips or information feel free to submit it or post a link in a comment so that others may find the useful information or tip as well.
