Want to increase your Brand Awareness? Maybe increase your traffic ? Or perhaps you just desire a nice inbound link with some good Page Rank behind it? Whatever your decision may be, (it may very well be you are competative and just like the thrill of competing against others) Blog Power Lists are one sure fire way to help in your quest to increase traffic, better your inbound links count with a quality link, as well as build a Brand Name Awareness for your blog as it climbs the ladder of success. Well okay I am getting ahead of myself here but one can dream right?

Some of these Blog Power Lists have been around for quite some time and some take a good deal of work to get on. This can range from a simple email request to be added, to having a blog that is noticed by the creators as a new rising star, in which case you will have to prove yourself and prove you have a quality blog. Some of these Blog Power Lists are niche specific so before trying to get added, make sure you have a blog that fits that niche. Others are a free for all of the most influential blogs out there. Climb to the top ranks of Power Blog Lists and watch your Brand Awareness increase, not to mention traffic.

With that said here are some Blog Power Lists that I have come across. If you know of any others, please leave a comment and link so that others may find them as well.

I'll start with the older lists that I am not sure if they still are maintained or updated (I believe there is a few of those so I will list them first ):

The count now for Power Lists here now is 28 , as I have added to the list since first publishing this article.

Top Ranked Web Analytic's Blogs - A list that is comprised of blogs who focus on Analytic's. From the looks of it this list likely is not updated any longer but then I could be wrong.

Top 50 Blogs in the Search Place - Niche list that I believe is no longer updated, perhaps it was just that a list and was not meant to be maintained.

Revenue Blog Rankings - A ranking of blogs based on this excerpt from the blog hosting the list.

Blogs that focus on affiliate marketing, display advertising, contextual advertising, and actually helping people generate revenue in these ways by running their own site.
I am not sure if this list is still active or not. But I did notice it was updated every few months with April 2007 looking like the last update.

Top 30 Canadian Marketing & Advertising Blogs -

Not sure if this one is still maintained so I will list it with these others I am not sure about. Still a good resource if this is your niche. August of 2007 was the last updated list I could find.

Top 50 Fashion Blogs -

I am going to assume blogs here focus about fashion. This list boasts over 800 blogs. Rankings and how often it is updated I do not know. Although the last update I could find was September 2007

PR Friendly Index-
Ran by Brendan Cooper which is current, and is a niche blog list. Thats right, those blogs pertaining to PR. Public Relations, not Page Rank :) This list is limited in size and ideally you will have to aim at having your blog being noticed and put on Brendan's radar. Only active blogs with useful content make the grade there.

The Top 25 Blogs About Blogging -

Blogs considered: the list considers only blogs that have a high percentage of blogging-related content. Topics might range from blogging tips to monetization, from news to building communities or business blogs.

The “Top 25 Blogs About Blogging” list ranks blogs according to their Google Pagerank, Alexa rank, number of Bloglines subscribers and Technorati authority

The Top 25 SEO Blogs -

"The Top 25 SEO Blogs" ranks the blogs according to their Google Pagerank, Alexa rank, number of Bloglines subscribers and Technorati authority. Each factor has a score from 0 to 10, and the maximum score for each blog is 40.

Paula's New List of Blogger, Webmaster, Domainer, Affiliate Marketer -

Last update was June of 2007 I believe. This list covers many websites and many well known blogs and Dot Com individuals who use the internet to make money. Reported incomes are collected by Paula Neal Mooney and to add yourself to the growing list, leave a comment or send her an email.

45N5 Top 100 -

This Power List is based on the niche of blogs who blog about how to make money online. The list is ran by Mark Wielgus who set up an algorithm that constantly watches all the blogs on the list. Mark updates this list regularly and you can add a widget to your blog to show off your ever changing rank. It is based on Google, Technorati, and Alexa rankings, and yes it is called a Top 100 list, but you can still make the list as an "up and comer" if you rank 101 or lower. Well over 300 blogs on this list.

AdAge Power 150 -

This Power List has been around for quite some time and ranks all the top english language media blogs as well as marketing blogs and is maintained by Todd Andrlik.
He has come up with an algorithm based on 8 different categories. Seven of which come from Google, Bloglines, Alexa, Yahoo! and Technorati and then the 8th, his own overall "personal judgment" or "feel" from your blog.

How do you get on this Power List? e-mail Charlie Moran (cmoran at adage.com) and let him know your blog’s name, URL and country of origin.
How many blogs made the grade so far? 608!

BIGLIST of SEM and SEO Blogs -

This list has over 400 blogs on it that cover a range of internet marketing topics ranging from SEO (search engine optimization) and PPC (pay per click) to blog marketing, marketing with social media and online public relations. Taken from their list page,

How do you get on the list?
It wouldn’t hurt to link to the list first. Otherwise, we find most of the new blogs when reading blogrolls of other BIGLIST inductees or SEM social news sites. Rarely do we add a blog based on a direct request. Two fundamental requirements: Your blog must cover search marketing and it must post weekly at a bare minimum. Other considerations include, blog design, usability, writing style and quality.

Try getting on the blogrolls of other blogs who have made the list. And produce some solid content and growth and get others talking about you positively.

Ratified -

The top 100 Australian blogs. This list obviously requires a blog to be maintained by an Australian. Other than that, I believe any niche or genre is acceptable. Technorati as well as Google and Feedburner stats are used. I also believe this one is updated daily so ranks can change by the hour. Also a Winners and Losers list showing who had the biggest gains or losses.

Top 100 Australian Blogs - (Blog Pond)

Another top 100 list open to blogs of Australian ownership. This list is updated monthly and boasts may top blogs in the blogosphere. Ranking is derived by using Technorati, the Australian Alexa rank and the global Alexa rank. (Thank You Meg for clarifying)

Top 100 Australian Women Bloggers-

Another Australian flavored blogging list that is also open to all niches with one more prerequisite. The blog must not only be maintained by an Australian, but also be a woman. Technorati and Alexa ranking are used to determine a blogs rank/wight. Used to be known as top 50 but recently it was made into a top 100 due to demand.

The Viral Garden's Top 25 Marketing and Social Media Blogs -

Niche is self explanatory for this one. And the list is updated weekly. As of this article they are on week 102. So it has been around for quite some time. Technorati is what is used for this ranking list.

Top Blogs About Blogging -

This one I can not offer much input as to how the ranking are determined or how often. The only thing I know is that Google Page Rank is not used as a determining factor. As well the niche target for this one should be self explanatory.

Poetry Blog Rankings -

This one is a niche list geared towards the artistic blogs. Poetry bloggers and blogs. Rank seems to be based on voting by your peers.

Sounds And Fury Top 30 Classical Music Blogs -

Updated quarterly. Eligibility for consideration for listing and a detailed explanation of the methodology used in compiling the ranked list as well as a key to reading the list’s entries can be found here.

Top 50 Sports Blogs -

Updated Quarterly. Open to blogs that focus on sports. Google, Alexa, BallHype and Technorati are the determining factors for this list.

Top 100 Personal Finance Blogs - (Do not let the date in the url fool you, this is updated and recent)

Quantcast/SiteMeter/Compete traffic figures are used to rank blogs and when there is a tie. Googles Page Rank is the determining factor for position.

Indonesian Matters - (Top 100 Indonesian Blogs)

Google, Yahoo, Bloglines, Techorati, Delicious and Alexa are used to rank blogs. List is updated twice a month and many other factors to determine if your blog can be on this list. Read the FAQ for more information.

Top 10 Economics Blogs -

243 blogs are on this list. Ranking is based on Technorati. Top 10 get their own page. The full list however can be found as well.

Top 300 Most Influential Blogs (Wikio) -

Technology, Celebrity, Politics and Other niches are focused on (Quite a wide variety including top 10 list from each sub group).

The position of a blog in the Wikio ranking depends on the number and weight of the incoming links from other blogs. These links are dynamic, which means that they are backlinks or links found within articles.

Blogrolls are not taken into account and Wikio only counts links from the last 120 days. The weight of a link depends on the linking blog’s position in the Wikio ranking. With their algorithm, the weight of a link from a top blog is greater than that of a link from a blog that is less well ranked.

Law Prof Blog Rankings -

I am going to assume this blog ranking list would be one of the harder ones to get on :P
Few years in law school, many years practicing law, and acceptance to a University as a Professor and then your own blog should do the trick! 35 blogs on this list.

Top 100 Analyst Blogs -

Google Page Rank, Google Reader, Technorati and Technobabble 2.0 are used for ranking purposes.

Le Basketbawl's Top 25 NBA Basketball Blogs -

Uses Ballhype, Alexa, Page Rank and Technorati to determine a blogs rank. This top list is updated monthly. And is exclusive to blogs that blog about Basketball.

The Top 100 Internet Business Blogs

Is a collection of influential business blogs and the rankings are done according to Alexa rank.

Thank You EntreCard Droppers

. Sunday, April 27, 2008
8 comments

As I mentioned in a previous article about a newly created Entrecard widget. I am going to dedicate this article and page to those who visit Blog Me The Money, from the Entrecard program. Anyone who takes the time to visit Blog Me The Money, and drop off an Entrecard will get a nice "thank you" and a permanent backlink to your blog. (Or website)

I know many people will debate and tell me that many visitors just drop and leave quickly trying to gain entrecard credits but many I have noticed do take the time to look about and some even leave comments. And for those people I especially want to leave a "Thank You". It's not much but it is another inbound link.

For anyone wishing to take part in the "You Drop, I link" movement, head on over and grab yourself a widget.

Now for the "Droppers": Again Thank You for stopping by and I hope you return again. If you like what you read, please subsrcibe to my RSS feed.

EntreCard: You Drop I Link

.

Many of you have already noticed this new widget kicking about on various blogs. But in case you have not come across it then I shall introduce you to it. Its a handy little widget that basically displays the last 50 people to drop an entrecard off at your blog or website. A nice little thank you for those who took the time to visit your site. This widget offers your visitors a nice little link pointing back to their blog until they are ultimately "pushed" off the list by being #51.

Last week I dropped off an entrecard at a couple blogs who already had this widget up and running. I never even put any thought into my blog appearing on their widget and thus possibly sending traffic my way. But the next day I had a visitor coming from that very widget. And then another and another! So I figured it was time to return the favor to other entrecard droppers coming to visit my blog and thank them for spending some time here. The widget in case you are curious is in my footer section. Top Middle column.

If you would like a widget like this on your blog or site then I suggest heading on over to Work At Home Wealth So that you too can reward your entrecard visitors with a nifty little link pointing back to them.

I am going to take this a step further and create a permanent list of those who "drop" on Blog Me The Money, and build a permanent backlink page just for them. My thank you, to all those wonderful entrecard visitors who take the time to come visit and drop by.

I just recently wrote an article on the importance of Alexa today, and this blogger has been making great strides with his Alexa ranking. Want to see a fast mover, rising in Alexa rank? Head on over to this site, home of Marcus Hochstadt. It is no wonder that his traffic and Alexa rank have been moving so well. Check out this great networking built within this contest. Genious and great marketing skills that will surely improve his Alexa rank yet even more.

He is throwing a party, not because of his Alexa rankings, which was supposed to be the reason, but because he felt like throwing a party anyhow since those Alexa stats got knocked about recently with the latest changes. What is the party? Well it is a contest in which many other bloggers and people have put up some pretty impressive prizes. Is Your Alexa Ranking A Concern To You?

. Monday, April 21, 2008
3 comments

While having recently changed my domain over and looking down to my toolbar to see an NA for Page Rank and Alexa I decided to start digging about on forums and other peoples pages.
And wow, there is a lot of information out there on Alexa, on how to increase your rating and how to do it in only 15 minutes! Or was it 5 days? 5 months? Either way I quickly learned there is a lot of information, most of it rendered useless as much of it is "old" and some touching on the grey area's and risky if you are concerned about your page rank or status on search engines. Thats not to say there isn't good information out there, you just have to search for it.

Back to the title of this article, is your Alexa Ranking a concern to you? well according to Alexa.com they define themselves as “the web information company,” and to many bloggers and webmasters they indeed are much more. For this group, Alexa should be a concern, after all Alexa helps leverage your blog or site's "selling worth" in the eyes of the all important marketers, promoters, advertisers, readers and anyone else who may be shopping for eyeballs. This includes the various publisher programs we tend to desire to do business with to monetize our webspace. So in that fact alone I suppose we should care, or at least take notice.

What Is Alexa?
Well Alexa is a company that measures traffic on almost every website out there in the cyberspace medium. And then offers this statistical information to marketers, advertisers and many others.

How Does Alex Gather Information?
This is where things get debateable and interesting. The basic answer is through a toolbar that is incorporated into your browser. Although there are also other ways as well. It is argued and rightfully so I believe, that this is an unfair measuring stick. The thought here is that most toolbar users are the more "technological savy" type. Not the average every day surfer who just may happen upon your website or blog. So those people (the average surfer)basically do not exist or register on the Alexa server as a visitor. One approach or work around is for you to install a widget on your website or blog to record these visitors, by forcing their browser to communicate with Alexa.com to gather your sites statistics. So in short, the only way to make sure your traffic is being accounted for , you need to install a widget. My widget for anyone wondering is centre of the page at the bottom in my sites footer. My stats as of this article? Zippo!, Notta, as my url is new and has not been crawled yet, to take into account for the new url.

What if my site does not cater to the technology savy type? Then I suppose you may have to get creative to find ways to bring those visitors? Perhaps an article or two that may interest them, or take part in forums that are known to have a lot of them with the hopes of some, following your posts/links to your site or checking out your site in your signature.

I thought you just said the widget will record all traffic? Well it is supposed to, but to make sure and be on the safe side, I would download the toolbar and also try to attract those others who are known to have the toolbar as well. It is not known whether or not the widget counts the same as the toolbar as far as stats. The toolbar at least works and that is known as fact.

Do I really care though? So some company says I dont have the traffic that I really do have.
Well that could very well be your stand on this and that is fine. But for the time being until some competing companies mature enough to rank and mean anything in the measuring game, Google's Page Rank and Alexa.com are the big hitters here and have a monopoly on this ranking business. And as I stated earlier, advertisers who pay publishers, also seem to care. Its not fair but at the end of the day it matters. Or at least if you wish to monetize your website.
Some programs for publishers use the Alexa.com scores your site receives to place a value on the space on your page and as a result, calculate what your "pay/worth" is going to be. The better your Alexa score the more money you possibly could pocket, making Alexa rank a must for those who wish to make money online.
And yes it is also widely known that these statistics can be gamed, manipulated and played with, but until the market changes, Alexa still means something. Fair or not.

What can I do to improve my ranking?
Now thats the question everyone is always asking. My old stats used to be less than stellar, and thats being kind, and I assume once I do get ranked again they will be nothing impressive either. But with some hard work I hope to rectify this.

As I mentioned, Download the toolbar.

Submit your site to the Alexa.com's crawler if you dont have a rank. need the address? Crawl Here

And install the widget supplied by Alexa.com on your site.

Finally write some popular content for your site. With that popular content, you can attract a larger visitor rate and help improve your score. After that, there is always the following list of things I've found on many various pages.
Do they work? most do but the results vary for each individual.

Other Possible Alexa .com Rank Tips:

1. Write amazing content and get it stumbled. This blogger has seen great success with Stumble.

2. Display Post Excerpts. That commonly found <--more--> line often found on a bloggers articles on their front page. Why? theory here is you then need to click on the "show more" line to goto the article's single page, which is yet another hit on that widget and or toolbar when that new page loads. Alexa's FAQ states,

A site’s ranking is based on a combined measure of reach and pageviews. Reach is determined by the number of unique Alexa users who visit a site on a given day. Pageviews are the total number of Alexa user URL requests for a site. However, multiple requests for the same URL on the same day by the same user are counted as a single pageview.

Want to read a blog that discusses this in more depth? Try, Increase Your Alexa Rank With Post Excerpts

3. Write useful, quality content, mostly webmaster-related. Promote this content on webmaster forums and on social networking sites. The idea is to get as many computer and Internet savvy people as possible to visit your site. Since it is likely that they will have the Alexa toolbar installed.

4. Write blogs and articles about Alexa. Yes thats right, write about Alexa. The hope here is to have others write about Alexa and possibly link back to your page. (more traffic)

5. Submit your material to social bookmarking sites. Digg, Delicious and all those other types (Same thing as #1)

6. Tell your friends about Alexa and ask them to install the toolbar. Perhaps your family, parents, grandparents, if they visit your site/pages as well.

7. When you post on forums, especially those tech types or webmaster types, remember to include your site in your signature. Even if you dont talk about your site, your link is still there for possible visitors. I know I click on those often just out of curiosity.

8. I've never really thought about it, but I read on Dosh Dosh, that apparently Asian people are big on Alexa and the toolbar. Find out where they hang out in large quantity and post good material for whatever the site is about and you could be in for a lot of good quality visitors with the toolbar installed. In fact I would go take a look at that list there. Many other useful idea's as well.

I should note however that the redirect method has been fixed and no longer works.

As well autosurfs tend to come up as well on various sites and lists and as I read on another blog by GoogleLady that this can negatively impact on your Page Rank. Another good read on Alexa.

All I can say is, that whether or not you like it, Alexa should mean something if you are concerned about monetizing your website. A better rank there can only help but increase your financial gains or at least open the door to other monetizing avenues. Its the how to part that becomes dicey. Download the toolbar, put up that widget and write great content. From there on its all debateable as to what works and what doesn't.

Anyone who is doing something different and having great success, I would love to hear about it, as would others I am sure.

Kindle customers, no matter where they are in the U.S., can wirelessly shop the Kindle Store and download new content, all without a PC or a WiFi hot spot. There are no monthly wireless bills and no service commitments for customers. The Kindle Store contains over 90,000 books that can be purchased and delivered wirelessly to Kindle, each in less than a minute. Customers can choose from hundreds of top newspapers, magazines and blogs and have their subscriptions auto-delivered wirelessly. All New York Times Best Sellers and New Releases are $9.99, unless marked otherwise. At 10.3 ounces, Kindle is lighter and thinner than a paperback book, carries two hundred books, and includes built-in access to The New Oxford American Dictionary and wireless access to the Earth’s biggest encyclopedia, Wikipedia.org.

So next time you are thinking of a cool gift to get the blogger you know, consider the Kindle.
